Handlers

While Tellus is no longer training other's retrievers, he continues to welcome people to join him for day training and/or private lessons.

As a part of training, Tellus welcomes others to participate in "Train the Handler". Whether you are a beginner or you've been handling retrievers for a while, it can be extremely helpful to run different dogs. You receive hands on experience, learning the different styles of dogs and how to react. This also is an excellent way to build confidence in your handling skills. You are required to bring your sense of humor and be prepared to laugh. It's dog training after all, not brain surgery!

After a Hunting Down Cancer Auction Training Weekend

"I got back from Sutter Bay Retrievers just before Thanksgiving. What an amazing two days at Tellus & Tracy’s house. They made us feel welcome and even served dinner and wine both nights. I had read a lot of posts on Waterdog about what a great guy Tellus is and they were certainly right. It was funny to watch Tellus and Justin on that week’s episode of Waterdog TV with Tellus sitting next to me. Hank picked up his first duck during those two days and he got to do a lot of stuff that he has not done yet, as we are new to the retriever world, including ducks and marks at about 80 yds. Tellus gave me his opinion of where Hank was and helped me introduce him to the concept of the bark collar and e-collar. The trip exceeded my expectations and was such a nice experience. With representatives like Tellus and Tracy Calhoun, the future of the retriever sports seems golden."
