Our dogs are Registered Pet Partners ® through Delta Society. The Pet Partners program was established in 1990 to ensure that "both ends of the leash," people as well as animals, were well-prepared to participate in animal-assisted activity and animal-assisted therapy programs. Pet Partners is the only national registry that requires volunteer training and screening of animal-handler teams.
The Pet Partners program trains and screens volunteers and their pets for visiting animal programs in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, schools and other facilities. They currently have over 10,000 specially trained and dedicated volunteers who lovingly share the healing power of their pets with others in need.
Delta also has the National Service Animal Resource, a web-based program providing information and resources for people with disabilities (as well as their friends and family) who are currently partnered with a service animal or who are considering getting a service animal. Information is available on their website or a friendly voice can assist via phone.
The Human-Animal Bond Resource Center. With over 30 years dedicated to studying and applying theory related to the human-animal bond, you can learn more about the wide variety of health benefits to people of all ages through our library or articles, abstracts and other resources.
You can find more information regarding the Delta Society here.
Tracy currently is working to develop pet visitation policies for the new Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House and is helping to coordinate Callie's Fund. Her goal in the next year is to become a Delta Pet Partner Instructor and Evaluator. Our dogs are a part of the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice team, visiting patients and families, as well as hospice and facility staff members. They are part of our "unpaid" volunteer staff, but are rewarded richly with love and treats!
Tribute
"Tracy, I wanted to thank you personally for bringing Callie into our lives. She brought a lightness to this agency. In the years since I have worked for Evergreen Hospice, I have never seen any being, 2 legged or 4, bring this staff together like Callie did."
